In the Munich mass murder you may have heard of, a different German situation than the one I blogged about below, the gunman is an apparent Muslim who was probably born in Germany, and many, many, news stories are calling him "German-Iranian." Who knew there was such a thing as a "German-Iranian"? Whose idea was that?

The Telegraph's reporting calls him an Iranian from Munich, which is probably a more sensible way of putting it.

18-year-old Iranian from Munich reported to be the gunman

An 18-year-old Iranian from Munich is thought to have been the gunman who shot nine dead and injured 10 others before killing himself, police said.

Munich police chief Hubertus Andraes said at a news conference that the attacker's motive was still "fully unclear."

"The perpetrator was an 18-year-old German-Iranian from Munich," he said.

"The motive or explanation for this crime is completely unclear."

Andraes said that the body of the shooter found about 2 1/2 hours after the attack was determined to be the shooter based on the evaluation of witness statements and closed circuit television.

Two others who fled the area quickly were investigated but had "nothing to do with the incident".[More]

The thing about calling him  a German-Iranian is part of the "It's not immigration, he was born here." nonsense: see How Many “Home-Grown” Muslim Attacks Before An Muslim Immigration Moratorium—And Expulsions?

It's all part of the phenomenon of denial that we see in the  case of Judge Curiel, the Mexican-American judge who was born in Indiana.  For that see The Fourth Of July Is Beloved Of Americans–But Not All “Citizens” Think Of Themselves That Way, and ask yourself how many Mexican-Americans are Americans in the sense that the German-Iranian was German.
