Earlier (2014) Female Secret Service Agents Aren‘t Actually Buttkicking Babes Like in Blockbuster Movies
ICE SVU does not like white men, the largest group in its workforce, followed by Hispanic men. Women are few and far between in the enforcement components of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), especially in the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) and ICE SVU‘s sister component in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Detention and Removal Operations (ERO). Women are few in the USBP because it has the most demanding training regime and the most physically demanding working environment, basically working in the desert running after illegal aliens. Women just don’t want that job or if they do, they quickly leave or seek out some desk assignment and never leave, except for publicity photo-ops. With ERO, it is mostly making arrests or tedious and demanding paperwork that receives scrutiny from counsel, administrative judges, and defense counsel, again not something women really want to do. ICE SVU itself is really not much of an opportunity for women, but better than most law enforcement agencies. The work is mostly in the office, few arrests are made, investigations take so long that cases are routinely passed on to another agent when the routine interoffice transfer to other units happens. Even though there is little real work—ICE SVU is not out there making arrests of criminals or illegal aliens—women are not attracted to the position. Of course, the powers that be find a male workforce a problem to be solved, so ICE SVU has to recruit women desperately, which includes a long-held and illegal policy of discrimination against men [ICE SVU Hates Men, Especially White Men, by Federale, VDare, March 18, 2020].
Sex discrimination is illegal according to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and by Federal regulations enforced by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM); there are only a few limited exemptions for such discrimination, but having too many men is not one of those legal exemptions. OPM has the authority to authorize the exemptions, but cannot allow exemptions that are false, fraudulent, or based on sex stereotypes.
In the case of ICE SVU’s latest affirmative action hiring announcement for Criminal Investigators (Special Agents), OPM allowed discrimination against men, and based that exemption on false and misleading claims by ICE SVU that women were needed to perform certain functions in ICE SVU that could not be performed by men [ICE SVU Continues Its War On Men, by Federale, VDare, August 21, 2023].
Now, the job announcement is out and the legal justification for discrimination was included in the announcement. It is basically completely fraudulent and a rationalization for discrimination against men. [Archive copy for when the announcement closes]
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has approved an exception to 5 CFR 332.407, Restriction of consideration to one sex, for this announcement in an effort to successfully recruit females to help execute the agency’s mission and conduct gender-based functions such as performing body searches of adult and minor female suspects; assisting in the transport and escort of female suspects; conducting undercover operations; and assisting with women and child victims.

We also get a cringe video in which a current ICE SVU Special Agent thinks joining ICE SVU was like being Jody Foster in Silence of the Lambs. Trust me, ICE SVU does not do anything like investigate serial killers, or at least it should not, since ICE SVU is supposed to be enforcing Federal customs and immigration laws, not replacing the FBI, or local police.

ICE SVU Bunko Squad Not Arresting Illegal Aliens
But ICE SVU will arrange a green card for illegal aliens based on a fraudulent claim of being trafficked or forced into prostitution.

ICE SVU Amnesty Not Arrests
However, back to ICE SVU‘s justification for sex discrimination. There are rationalizations for what it describes as “… to help execute the agency’s mission and conduct gender-based functions such as performing body searches of adult and minor female suspects; assisting in the transport and escort of female suspects; conducting undercover operations; and assisting with women and child victims.”
Each rationalization is either an exaggerated need, not a common function of ICE SVU Special Agents, so uncommon as to be practically unknown, or just false.
First, the obvious, conducting body searches of female suspects. It is common in law enforcement to have female suspects searched by female officers or agents. However, it is not a Federal law or regulation, just a common-sense practice. But there are many Federal law enforcement agencies where female officers or agents are not available. In those cases women are searched by male officers, and with body cameras, substantiated allegations of sexual misconduct in such situations are virtually unheard of. In any event, ICE SVU only made 36,685 criminal arrests in Fiscal Year (FY) 2022, with probably 99% of those arrests of male subjects. So, the need to have more female agents to arrest fewer suspects than FY 2019 just is not there. More telling is that female agents are allowed to search male suspects, which would lead to an opportunity for sexual assault as much as a male agent assaulting a female suspect.
In any event, ICE SVU does not need to do anything more than a pat-down search of any sensitive areas of a female suspect, as ICE SVU contracts with State and local jails and prisons to hold arrestees, and there all arrestees are thoroughly searched by jail officers as part of intake.
Now to the transport and escort of female subjects. There is just no need to have a female escort or transport a female subject. ICE SVU procedure requires two agents in a vehicle while transporting any arrestee, so it is just not necessary to have a female agent for a female subject since two agents are always present and can testify if there are any accusations of misconduct. Having been in Federal law enforcement for 28 years, including the legacy Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) and DHS, I can attest that I and other male agents have escorted and transported female suspects routinely. I have worked in offices were there were no female agents and all escort and transport was done by male agents. And, again, female agents are allowed to transport and escort male suspects. The standard is clearly based on sex-based stereotypes of men as molesters of some sort. The real problem, though, is the growing sexual misconduct of women in positions of authority, such as with teachers. Women are predators of vulnerable populations, such as suspects, as well.
The next justification for more women agents is conducting undercover (UC) operations. That is just laughable. In undercover operations, male agents are overwhelmingly more likely to be the UC. Women are significantly underrepresented in the criminal community and especially in the drug cartels or gangs. Women just don’t do much UC work, and don’t volunteer because of the danger.
Then, there is the just plain lie that women agents are needed to successfully work with female and minor victims of crime. Now, ICE SVU does not do much victim work, even though they want to hand out green cards to illegal aliens. In FY 2022, they “identified or assisted” fewer than 1,800 victims, male and female, of which most were actually arrested, identified, or assisted by local agencies. ICE SVU just took the credit but did none of the work. But male agents can work with women and child victims of crime just as easily as women. I, again, can attest that I worked many cases and that male ICE SVU agents similarly work many cases with female and child victims and successfully make their cases. The claim that men cannot successfully work with female and child victims is just a sex stereotype.
All the rationalizations for discrimination against men are either inflated, minimal, just don’t exist, or are completely fraudulent. Time for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to stamp this out.
