Protect Freedom Of Speech! Only 27 26 Giving Days Left in Fiscal 2006!

Peter Brimelow writes: Here's why you MUST help VDARE.COM: I'm blogging tonight on a California newspaper which has just run a typical smear on local immigration groups. One of the charges: a member has been published on VDARE.COM - "which recently ran an article on the 'the black-white IQ gap'." That's it - that's all. Just writing for us is evidence of guilt. It doesn't matter that the black-white gap is one of the best-attested phenomena in American social science. Or that we were actually reporting a scholarly debate on whether it is decreasing. You can't mention this stuff at all in the Mainstream Media - or even in the mouthpieces of the Beltway Right. Of course, the California paper's attitude is stupid and evil. But the fact is that, if it were up to the MSM and the cultural Establishment, political correctness would be absolute. The ONLY way to preserve American liberties, and to keep getting facts and analysis on IQ, immigration and a range of forbidden topics, is to help us build alternative institutions - while we still have time. PLEASE give generously.

It's that time of year again.

It's Christmas.

Soon it will be New Year—and the end of fiscal 2006.

It's the season for VDARE.COM to run its annual War Against Christmas Competition, looking for the most outrageous attempt to abolish Christmas.

And it's also time for us to ask for money.

I don't like doing this. But our advisors tell us this because I still haven't developed the shamelessness necessary to build an institution. Christmas appeals are a critical part of the non-profit world, just as Christmas sales are to commerce. People are in a holly, jolly mood. They are also thinking, with some corner of their minds, about the need to pay taxes on 2006 income. (Donations to VDARE.COM are tax-deductible!)

And we are indeed building an institution at VDARE.COM. Of course, we shouldn't have had to do it. Established foundations and media mouthpieces should have addressed the issue of nation-breaking mass immigration, both legal and illegal.

But they didn't. In fact, I founded VDARE.COM—after some testing, the first public announcement was emailed out on Christmas Eve 1999—because I and others had been extruded from one such media mouthpiece, and immigration criticism abandoned.

In a way, it's not surprising. It's a common observation in business history (I daylight as a financial journalist) that corporations don't survive "technological discontinuities"—a radical change in their way of working. Instead, new corporations come along.

I sometimes wonder what American institutions—think tanks, magazines, even political parties—will survive the radical changes looming because of our ongoing immigration disaster. I am sure, however, that VDARE.COM will be ready.

But, in the short run, it means we have our work cut out for us at VDARE.COM. We have had to press fifty years of institution-building into just over six.

Fortunately, the internet makes miracles possible, and we now have hundreds of thousands of readers each month. But it takes relentless hard work—and money to pay our dedicated writers, and the many more we'd like to run.

In fact, the Christmas story is a heartening one for us at VDARE.COM. We posted a story about the War Against Christmas on Christmas Day 1999 (not sure how I managed that, the children were very small) and began our first War Against Christmas Competition in 2000.

At that time, no-one ever mentioned the subject and, in fact, the Establishment mouthpiece mentioned above dropped discussing it as soon as I was eliminated. Now, as I look at the emails coming in, I am simply amazed at how widespread the resistance to the Khristmaskampf has become—how many individuals are rebelling and demanding that stores not use the Christophobic "Happy Holidays" and that Christmas Trees be called, well, Christmas Trees. Several major media figures have taken up the cause, and even (wow!) a few politicians.

The battle has hardly been joined. It will take tenacity, now that the Christophobes have gotten over their shock at being challenged and are retaliating. But right now it looks as if the War Against Christmas could turn into perhaps the most extraordinary examples of cultural backlash since the anti-Vietnam War movement accidentally elected Richard Nixon in 1968.

Modestly prevents me from claiming this was all due to VDARE.COM, although I do know that our wonderful readers have emailed our Christmas material to the major media figures etc. in question. But I do think we helped—and that we blazed a trail.

I also think that this is what will happen with the issue of mass immigration. Exactly as with the War Against Christmas, resistance to the Washington elite's Abolish America policy is now everywhere and shows every sign that it is about to break out of the control of the usual cultural police.

The most obvious sign, of course: the failure this summer of the unholy alliance of the Bush White House, Congressional Democrats and a minority of Republicans to push through S2611, the extraordinary amnesty/ Open Borders wish list proposal, which would have doubled or tripled legal immigration, and which we dubbed "The Senate Sell-Out."

That sell-out was stalled because, and only because of grass-roots patriotic resistance, which emboldened House Republicans to stand their ground.

Again, I don't claim this is all due to VDARE.COM—or to my own anti-immigration book, Alien Nation, published eleven years ago this year, and generously described as "seminal" by Pat Buchanan in his recent best-seller State of Emergency: The Third World Invasion And Conquest of America.

But I do claim we were first. And that we were right, and that we helped the process along.

In his Acknowledgements, Pat Buchanan also described VDARE.COM as "indispensable" and thanked several of our writers by name, including Edwin S. Rubenstein, Allan Wall, James Fulford, Joe Guzzardi and Steve Sailer.  We were cited in more than forty footnotes.

This is an example of the way in which a high-level website like VDARE.COM can inject facts and analysis into public debate so that they are available to the great popularizers—and to the myriad of patriotic Americans whose protests stalled the Senate Sell-out and, with luck, will defeat its spawn.

These are some themes that we hope to inject, in our viral marketing way, into public debate next year:

  • Reporting the proportion of new jobs going to immigrants. Native-born Americans are being crowded out—as shown by Edwin S. Rubenstein's VDARE.COM American Worker Displacement Index.

  • Chronicling immigrant-imported corruption. As in Nicholas Stix' article on the NYPD scandal.

  • Naming the guilty immigration enthusiasts. As in Bryanna Bevens' exposé of the Western Growers Association and Patrick Cleburne's exposé of Helen Krieble, the wealthy Colorado horse farm owner who sponsored the "Pence Ploy", the last-minute legislative scheme to bamboozle House opponents of the Senate Sell-out.

  • Naming the guilty media mouthpieces. As in Joe Guzzardi's coverage of the Sacramento Bee/ Diana Griego Erwin scandal.

  • Naming the guilty educational institutions. As in Athena Kerry's insider reports from a Catholic University.

  • Exposing Electoral myths. As in Steve Sailer's exposé of the mythical Latino Supervote in '06—and the invisible white majority.

  • Offering solutions. As in Steve Sailer's buyout proposal for France's Muslims.

We didn't have a Fall fundraising drive this year. Like I said, I don't like asking for money. And it takes us all our time to keep updating VDARE.COM every day.

But we hope our Christmas Campaign will raise $75,000. (We'll need some big donors—give stock and avoid capital gains!) That will go a considerable way towards stabilizing VDARE.COM after a turbulent couple of years. And it will help us fund some specific challenges—which I'll be telling you about in the next few days.

If this works, I won't be bothering VDARE.COM readers until, oh maybe Easter!

There's a war against that too!

You can donate by check or credit card—and you can do it monthly if you prefer. ALSO: you can now fax your credit card info! Donations are tax-deductible.
We are delighted see donations of any size—$10, 100, $1,000, $10,000. But we do feel especially good about the larger ones!
And don't forget - you can give stock! You could help us more at no cost by avoiding capital gains tax! (Email donate@vdare.com for details)
