Trump spoke for ten minutes at a “Lincoln Dinner” in Iowa.

He spoke against illegal immigration, and other hot button issues, but didn’t mention legal immigration.

I’ll immediately cancel every single Open Borders policy of the Biden administration and stop the invasion of criminals in many cases coming into our country. I had the safest border in the history of our country. And we will do it again and we'll get it done very quickly.

On day one, I will sign an executive order to cut federal funding for any school pushing Critical Race Theory transgender insanity and other inappropriate ratio, sexual or political content on children. I will keep men out of women's sports, and you know nobody's been tougher on that than me. How ridiculous is that? And I will sign a law prohibiting child sexual mutilation.

DeSantis also spoke, starting at 20:40 below. Around the 24-minute mark, he spoke out against Biden’s Border Rush, and is willing to defend the U.S. using force, including putting the military on the Border.

I pledge to be the president to finally solve the issue of the southern border. We're sending the military to the border. Yes, we will build a border wall. And we will use deadly force against the Mexican drug cartels because I'm sick of them poisoning our kids. I'm sick of them killing our citizens, and I'm sick of them trafficking people into this country that ends on January 20, 2025.

He also didn't mention legal immigration.

Remember, opposition to illegal immigration ought to be a minimum requirement for any candidate of either party. But while illegal is bad, it's not what's transformed America since 1965, and when Trump ran for President the first time, he posted a plan to cut it. See my 2015 post Trump Posts Immigration Plan, Neocons Go A Little Crazy.

His plan had three "core principles":

1. A nation without borders is not a nation. There must be a wall across the southern border.
2. A nation without laws is not a nation. Laws passed in accordance with our Constitutional system of government must be enforced.
3. A nation that does not serve its own citizens is not a nation. Any immigration plan must improve jobs, wages and security for all Americans. [More]

It's the last one that's about legal immigration—if someone is being replaced by an immigrant, and forced to train his replacement, it doesn't make him feel any better to know that thanks to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the thing is perfectly legal.
