Ex-Californian Linda Thom writes from the Pacific Northwest, where most people are Americans:

ABCNews.com reports a Tuberculosis Outbreak at Sacramento High School, July 2, 2014,.

A California high school is at the center of a tuberculosis outbreak linked to an infectious student who tested positive for active TB in February, county health officials said Wednesday.

Four more students at Grant Union High School in Sacramento have contracted active TB. Three related tuberculosis cases are considered an outbreak, Sacramento County Department of Health and Human Services spokeswoman Laura McCasland said,

I also checked the California Department of Education website cde.ca.gov, and found school data for Grant Union high. 20% don't speak English. 223 Spanish; 113 Hmong. Only 7% of students are white.

Last, according to story there were 90 cases of TB in Sacramento County last year. Did this make national news? Nope, this is just business as usual.

Happy 4th,

Linda

If you want to hear more about immigration and disease, it turns out that Michael Savage trained as an epidemiologist (he used to write books on nutrition, and has two science MAs and a Ph.D) and devoted his whole program to this subject.

There isn't a transcript, but Kathy Shaidle provides a paraphrase of his intro in her Talk Radio column:

“I’ve been working on the topic of immigration and epidemics since the late 1970s,” Dr. Savage reminded his listeners this week, reacting to troubling reports about the various communicable diseases being carried by “refugees” streaming over the border.

“When I tried to publish my seventh book, entitled ‘Immigrants and Epidemics,’ all the publishers in New York turned it down for political reasons. I got so angry that I recorded my radio audition tape, and the rest is history,” he explained. “Since then, I’ve been like Paul Revere, trying to warn America about what was to come. … Epidemiology was my field in graduate school. I know more about this than anyone else on radio”.

Savage discusses the Grant Union High School outbreak, the Border Surge, and Pelosi and Obama's responsibility.
