I think Senator Chuck Schumer (Treason Lobby-NY) is an arrogant blowhard, and I'm interested to see that professional token Hispanic columnist Ruben Navarrette, whom we've occasionally criticized, thinks so too. He wrote recently:

Schumer predicted Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press" that a bill could pass by the Fourth of July and that he is shooting for 70 votes, which he thought he could get, including a majority of Republicans.

Don't believe it. I've followed Schumer's approach to the immigration issue for many years, and most of what he says on the subject is a falsehood, a fraud or a fairy tale.

Still, I hope that Schumer is right about this:

But if conservatives oppose citizenship, the coalition supporting reform will push back, according to Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), one of the legislators that drafted the bill. The senator spoke to Univision's Jorge Ramos in an interview that aired Sunday on the news show "Al Punto."

"If the House resists, I think we'll see a day like we did in the civil rights movement," Schumer said. "I think we'll see two million people on the Mall in Washington, D.C., and on the stage will not just be liberal Democrats, they will be the business leaders, the agricultural leaders, the cardinals from the Catholic Church, the leaders of the evangelical churches, all saying this is the right thing to do."

"And they will have to pass it," Schumer continued.

Apart from the ludicrous idea of the chiefs in the K Street lobbying firms and the Soros-funded religious front groups marching without any Indians behind them (maybe they'd draft their Hispanic office cleaners?), Schumer ignores the fact that the mass marches during the 2006 Amnesty War provoked a fatal backlash from appalled American patriots.

Intimidation through mass demonstration is a traditional part of Latin American politics.  Nothing could be better calculated to reveal what the Amnesty/ Immigration Surge bill will do to America.

Bring it on.
