Ransom Note Racism Strikes Again–A Racist Is Anyone Who Quotes Anyone, But Especially Peter Brimelow
Dick Morris, discussing the Journolist conspiracy to bury the story of Reverend Wright, and Spencer Ackerman`s plan to call any white Republican a racist in order to achieve an Obama victory, used a phrase that has entered the English language. The people at Raw Story [email them]write:
“Fox News political analyst Dick Morris attempted to make this point on Wednesday during an appearance on Fox & Friends by quoting the line, “A racist is somebody who is winning an argument with a liberal.” The odd thing about Morris`s use of this quote to deny the reality of racism, however, is that it comes from Peter Brimelow, founder of the anti-immigration website VDARE, which has been accused of being a white nationalist hate site.”[Fox analyst uses quote from alleged hate site to deny right-wing racism, By David Edwards and Muriel Kane,July 21st, 2010 ]
This phrase actually first appeared in National Review, and also in Alien Nation, a New York Times bestseller published by Random House, but it`s now common enough that a writer in England, discussing this concept, alluded to it by writing “As the old saying goes…” For the record, the full thing was, on page 10 of Alien Nation
Because the term “racist” is now so debased, I usually shrug such smears off by pointing to its new definition: anyone who is winning an argument with a liberal.Or, too often, a libertarian. And, on the immigration issue, even some confused conservatives.
When I heard that Dick Morris was being harassed for using a common saying attributed to Peter Brimelow, I thought it was the dumbest thing I`d heard for three years, two months, and twelve days, since Representative Ted Poe, speaking in support of the surge in Iraq, said “Nathan Bedford Forrest, successful Confederate general, said it best about winning and victory and the means to do so. He said `Get there firstest with the mostest.` “ and morons “blasted” him for quoting a general who, after the Civil War, went on to found the KKK. If you can`t quote anybody without being responsible for everything they did before and after they were quoted, then we might as well sell all our copies of Bartlett`s.
