I'm starting to wonder about the boys over at Powerline blog. Are they channeling VDARE.com? And if so, are they prepared for what’s coming?

As I wrote last year, Steven Hayward published a post likening the Muslim invasion and subversion of Europe to Jean Raspail’s “Camp of the Saints.” Very dangerous.

Last week, Paul Mirengoff took another risk in a post about Rep. Mike McCaul’s possible appointment to run the Department of Homeland Security.

Here is the headline: “Mike McCaul: the wrong man to run Dept. of Homeland Security.”

And here is the headline from VDARE.com, Nov. 30: “#NeverMcCaul – Trump Meets With Homeland Security Candidate Who Would Throw His Presidency Away.”

The stories are cast differently, but their points converge: McCaul is a weak sister on immigration who must not run Homeland Security.

Mirengoff did not link to VDARE.com. But he erred gravely on one count. He cited Numbers USA and the Center for Immigration Studies.

According to the $PLC, they, along with FAIR, the Federation for American Immigration Reform, are the “The Nativist Lobby: Three Faces Of Intolerance.” $PLC’s report on the immigration-restriction triumverate breathlessly describes it as virulently "racist"—a word that appears in the report 54 times.

The Powerline crew is sailing in dangerous waters. First, they likened Muslims in Europe to the Raspail’s rapacious horde from the East. Then they published a post very close to something that appears on VDARE.com. Even worse, the post cited two groups pronounced guilty of Crimethink.

That said, they needn’t worry about pilfering ideas from VDARE.com. We agree with Harry Truman: “It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.”
