The same day that Fox News’ Bill Melugin reported that southwest border agents collared 270,000 illegals trying to cross the border in September, Contreras actually claimed that the “open border” alarm from conservatives is just a “myth.” As Bill Buckley once said to a guest on Firing Line, “I won’t insult your intelligence by suggesting that you really believe what you just said.”

Any day now, CBP should be releasing the border numbers for the month of September.

After claiming that conservatives are retailing that “myth,” Contreras’ Treason Lobby propaganda piece offered a condescending “reality check.”

Since 1992, the U.S. has quadrupled the number of Border Patrol agents—from less than 5,000 to nearly 20,000 today.

• Barriers, walls, and fences have been erected along portions of the 1,951-mile U.S.-Mexico border, in addition to new Border Patrol outposts and high-tech surveillance systems.
• The Border Patrol regularly breaks border arrest records, highlighting the difficulty of entering the country illegally.
• Most recently, Biden decided to go forward with a border wall in South Texas.
• Lines at ports of entry have gotten longer because of new requirements to enter the U.S., putting pressure to expand hours at newer ports of entry like the one in Santa Teresa, New Mexico.

Maybe Contreras doesn’t know that Biden has released millions of “migrants” to roam free with no fear of deportation (100,000 in the first 20 days of September alone), Maybe he doesn’t know that 18,000 gotaways slipped past border agents in the first 16 days of fiscal 2024, which began October 1. That’s 1,125 illegals every day.
