The NY Post has a story headed San Francisco reparations panelist calls straight white men are [sic] ‘serial killers.’

A member of San Francisco’s slavery reparations committee blasted straight white men as a “danger to society”—and claimed “white supremacy is ingrained in the DNA” of America.

Nikcole Cunningham, who serves on the California city’s 15-person African American Reparations Advisory Committee, launched the broadside against straight white men in an interview with The Daily Telegraph.

“Straight white men are abusive. Straight white men are serial killers,” Cunningham told the news outlet. “They have the most—I watch these shows—the most serial killers. Straight white men are the ones who are shooting up schools, right?

“So they are a danger to society,” she said, adding: “Not all of them.”

The key phrase is ”I watch these shows.”

For example, the abusive male in a TV drama will be white—but domestic abuse is much more common in the black community. Aside from higher rates of domestic assault, black women are ”2.5 times more likely to be murdered by men than white women.”

However, a drama about a woman surviving domestic violence by a black male perpetrator will not be a Lifetime Movie of the Week any time soon.

In the same way, belief that serial killers are white is a trope in popular culture—but only because that’s what the media is willing to make dramas about, like the case of Jeffrey Dahmer (a not-straight white male) but not ”Grim Sleeper” Lonnie Franklin (10–25+ victims), ”America’s Deadliest Serial Killer” Samuel Little (ca. 90 victims, many white women), or black Kenyan immigrant Billy Chemirmir (up to a hundred victims).

And finally, as for school shootings, we know what kind of school shooting makes a Lifetime Movie, and we know what kind doesn’t.

The online K-12 School Shooting Database says that

Unlike other data sources, this information includes gang shootings, domestic violence, shootings at sports games and afterhours school events, suicides, fights that escalate into shootings, and accidents. 

That would include TWO separate killings at Oliver Citywide Academy in Pittsburgh, neither of which involved straight white men:

It’s possible that Cunningham knows in her personal life women who’ve been victims of domestic violence (not by straight white men) or ”gun violence” (not by straight white men) ... but she believes what she sees on TV.
