A Florida Reader Says You Should
Cancel Your Vacation To Her State
From: Peggy Decker
According to a story in the Orlando Sentinel,
Florida leads America in the most cases of
food-related illnesses affecting people who have eaten
out. The leading causes of food poisoning are ethnic
food, sea food and all-you-can eat buffets.
Mentioned as a cause is the failure of employees to
wash their hands. [Florida

The website
Healthinspections.com reported that
Florida, with 29,729 restaurants, had 77 separate
outbreaks of food-borne illness affecting 300 people
during 2005, the most recent year for which statistics
are available. You can check your hometown on the
website by entering your zip code.
Since immigrants make up such a large percentage of
the employees in
food service industry, especially in the kitchen, it
is not hard to draw a connection.
If you are a snowbird who regularly visits Florida in
the winter, maybe you should rethink your plans.
Don’t go to California either. It is the state with
the second most number of food-related illnesses.
