08/03/08 - An Illinois African-American Reader Says Black Support for Barack Obama “Mirrors” Irish Enthusiasm For John F. Kennedy

A North Carolina Reader Says Obama’s Promised “Change” Will Include Much More Illegal Immigration—And Not Just From Haiti

From: Tom Shuford (e-mail him)

Re: Patrick Cleburne’s Blog: Obama’s Immigration Policy: Bring In More Haitians

Cleburne quoted Barack Obama on the subject of more Haitian immigration into the U.S.

  • “It’s harder for Haitians to immigrate than it is for persons from other countries in some cases. That's something we need to prevent."

Obama wants to step up immigration from Haiti, but other sources of Third World immigration—particularly of the illegal variety—will not be overlooked either.

In his own words:

  • "Nobody in the Senate, other than maybe Ted Kennedy, has been more consistent in saying we need to have a pathway to citizenship for those who are undocumented, already here . . ." (Obama, referring to himself, in an interview with Univision, the Spanish-language television network, May 30, 2008).

  • "The (immigration) system isn't working when . . . communities are terrorized by ICE immigration raids when nursing mothers are torn from their babies . . ." (Obama addressing the National Council of La Raza, July 14, 2008).

And this exchange (see it here) between Obama and CNN's Wolf Blitzer, moderator of the CNN Democratic Debate, Nov. 15, 2007: "I take it, Senator Obama, you support giving drivers licenses to illegal immigrants. Is that right?"

Obama evades. Blitzer rephrases. Obama ducks.

Finally, Blitzer: "This is the kind of question that is available for a yes or no answer. Either you support it or you oppose it. Yes or no?"

Obama’s reponse: "Yes. But, I am going to be fighting for comprehensive immigration reform . . ."

The change Obama believes in is citizenship and driver’s licenses for illegal aliens and reduced enforcement of immigration laws.
