01/23/08 - A Black Reader Says She Hopes Whites Don’t Take The Obama Guilt Trip

A CA Ron Paul Supporter Comments On His Strengths And Weaknesses

From: Terry Graham (e-mail her)

Re: Marcus Epstein’s Column: Ron Paul--The Good, The Bad And The Idiosyncratic

My biggest concern about Ron Paul is his support of “the free exchange of labor” Paul just doesn’t get it---yet.

Americans are losing jobs to foreigners who simply should not be allowed to fill them. Our educated middle class is dying in the face of unwanted, foreign competition that we don't need. Perhaps Paul's bad information is because Americans hurt by H1-B and L1 visas have not met with him or his staff to explain the harmful results of such naive policies.

While campaigning in San Francisco, Paul said that if foreigners come here "voluntarily" (yes, he used that word) to work and find a job, they should be allowed in. The realization that such people would be taking jobs from Americans has not hit Paul.

At several points in his speech, Paul referred to Americans as "consumers". He believes "consumers" (market forces) will decide who should enter and work in the US. But that puts cheap labor corporate greed-mongers in the driver's seat of our immigration policy.

Paul needs to realize that Americans are “citizens,” not merely “consumers.”

Furthermore, Paul must understand that most Americans consider even legal immigration an invasion of our nation; an undeclared war, and adding that unskilled, uneducated, high fertility immigrants goes against the people’s will.

As a doctor, Paul seems oblivious to the reintroduction of deadly diseases brought by his "voluntary" foreign workers that had either been eradicated, or simply did not exist in America, before open borders. Why should we import and be exposed to these?

Paul's comment in the Univision Spanish-language debate that Americans are "jealous" if they are not bilingual troubles me. I speak Spanish, and yesterday had two Safeway workers whom I asked for help decide to speak Spanish to each other while I stood there. In Spanish, I asked why they did not speak English. Their nasty, surly replies and sneers displayed their contempt for me.

My advice to them: This is our nation: speak our language.

All other Republican and Democrat candidates are far worse than Paul on immigration and foreign workers, despite their empty promises.

Paul's trump card is his support of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and national sovereignty. Without a nation, none of the rest matters.
