I attended  Houston Independent School District schools, from 1978-1983. Back then, we had corporal punishment, but that was done away with in the 90s. When I was in school, you could have 40 kids per classroom and it would be as quiet as a church.

My friend's sister became a teacher in HISD—now the schools are all zoos, like all other public schools with large minority populations. Last I spoke with her, every day was an ordeal.
