From: J. Richard Bert (e-mail him)

Re: Joe Guzzardi's Column: Happy New Year! Why There Will Be No 2009 Amnesty

Guzzardi's prediction that there will be no 2009 amnesty is completely safe. In addition to all Obama's problems that Guzzardi listed, the Gaza crisis is now upon him.

Looking ahead, it is almost as certain that no illegal alien amnesty will be granted in 2010, 2011 or 2012.

In 2010, the entire House and 35 Senate seats will be contested; in 2011 Obama's re-election campaign will kick off  (how will he look to us two years from now?) and in 2012, the House will again stand for re-election as well as 33 different Senators.

Controversial issues like "comprehensive immigration reform" need momentum to carry them forward.

But the issue has been a loser for years. Therefore, no politician wants to campaign on amnesty.

What we need are braver Republicans to speak out against illegal immigration in all its forms.
