Re: A Department Of Defense Insider Reports Who ISN'T Being Furloughed: H1-B Visa Holders!

From: A Naturalized American Citizen [Email him]

I’m currently working as a language teacher at Defense Language Institute. When I first heard that the furlough will affect everyone but H1 visa holders, I felt betrayed by the country I swore to stand by when I became a U.S citizen.

What this appears to be is that the U.S government is more eager to protect the rights of a foreign worker than those of its own citizens. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

I know a lot of teachers at DLI are H1 visa holders trying to become a permanent residents. The decision to exempt H1 visa holders from being furloughed will make them feel they are better off as H1 visa holders than as permanent residents or U.S citizens.

James Fulford writes: Apparently no one cares about those people who’ve gone to the trouble—the considerable trouble, it takes years—of going through the legal process of becoming a citizen and swearing allegiance to the United States.
