Re: James Fulford's blog post Black DC National Guard General Whines Bitterly About Not Being Chosen To Guard Trump’s Inaugural

From: Spirit of the Fighting 69th [Email him]

What Instapundit wrote ("So Trump can’t have ordered this because he’s not President yet") is not true. The Commanding General of the DC National  Guard is under the Secretary of the Army and therefore under the president. He was endorsed for his position by a Republican as well, and in no way would he be sympathetic to rioters. Maj. Gen. Schwartz has given long and honorable service and is a professional above all.

I regard the comments made about Maj Gen Schwartz as a scurrilous attack on an officer whom I have known for years and I take it as a personal insult.

As a political appointee, yes he is removable at 12:01 on the 20th, but this has never been done in the history of the DCNG and was probably engineered by an ignoramus who does no credit to the incoming administration. Printing this piece detracts from the patriotic work of VDARE as well.

See previous letters from "Spirit of the Fighting 69th" The reader is the fourth generation in his family to have served in America's military, and was present at the Pentagon  when it was attacked on September 11, 2001.

James Fulford writes: I am happy to learn that Maj Gen Schwartz is a reliable and honorable officer,  and the DC National Guard is prepared for what will certainly be a very testing inauguration. [General promises DC National Guard is ready for inauguration despite furor, By John Woodrow Cox, The Washington Post, January 16, 2017]

Instapundit has updated his post to note that Maj Gen Schwartz, who was appointed during the Bush Administration, has submitted his resignation, pro forma, on each of the last two Presidential terms.

My post was speculative, but I maintain that if anyone in the Trump Transition team, who doesn't know the General as well as our reader does, was thinking the same way, he's not wrong.
