Re: Joe Guzzardi's Column:
Napolitano Nixes Chertoff's Enforcement Achievements
Guzzardi forgot another important drop in enforcement
under President Obama and his Homeland Security Chief
Janet Napolitano.
In
May, Obama cancelled plans to extend
the border fence
along the U.S.-Mexico line beyond the 670 miles already
completed or planned.
Peggy Sherry, acting chief financial officer in the
Department of Homeland
Security said that the Obama administration
would not extend the barrier network that has
"irked Mexico and stirred concerns among
immigrant-advocate organizations." [Obama's
Budget Proposal Cuts Border Fence Funds,
Dallas Morning News, May 7, 2009]
Nothing sends a clearer message when it comes to
abandoning enforcement than giving up on
the fence. [E-mail Peggy Sherry.]
