Obama’s Bilingual Gaffe, The MSM, And Why You MUST Support VDARE.COM NOW!
By Peter Brimelow Tonite! Marcus Epstein Has Data That Refutes The Treason Lobby’s Spin On Cannon’s Firing; etc. SCROLL DOWN TO DONATE LINK! Many VDARE.COM readers will know by now that Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama committed a major gaffe (cynically defined as “a politician inadvertently telling the truth”) when he was caught on camera dismissing the idea that English should be America’s official language, asserting instead that “You need to make sure your child can speak Spanish. You should be thinking about how can your child become bilingual.” This unquestionably reveals that Obama has no objection to the continuing immigration-driven linguistic Balkanization of America, and will do nothing to protect ordinary Americans who increasingly find that they are being excluded from whole classes of jobs because they do not speak Spanish. (At VDARE.COM, we get desperate, heartrending email from them all the time.) Of course, most likely Republican Presidential nominee John McCain will do nothing either. We blogged on this immediately. But it’s highly significant that the Establishment media, what we call the Mainstream Media or MSM, is not really interested. A Google search reveals almost no stories. It just doesn’t fit the party line. Which is particularly disgraceful because there’s a great deal of evidence about what happens when you allow “bilingualism” into a unilingual society—basically, it dispossesses the majority. That means YOU and YOUR CHILDREN. I’ve written about this problem extensively because of my years working in Canada. There are just so many targets for us at VDARE.COM. But to hit them, we MUST HAVE your support. This is a typical dilemma I face at VDARE.COM: We suspended our Summer appeal for donations over the July 4th weekend. (Many thanks to those of you who have responded so far. It’s more than just the money, it raises the morale of everyone in the VDARE.COM family. And, in the patriotic immigration reform business, goodness knows, morale is very important!) Of course, donations immediately dried up. I knew from experience that they would. But something more significant also happened. Joe Guzzardi, our Friday columnist and Letters Editor, is preparing to leave California—where his family has lived for three generation. (He’ll be writing a valedictory column soon). So he told us he couldn’t write his column or edit enough letters to fill his usual Saturday Forum. Unlike many other sites, it’s a point of pride with us that VDARE.COM posts new material every day. But I simply didn’t have time to edit any other articles. (We need a back-up editor). (We need a redesign). (We need a full-time fundraiser). (We need so many things). So I decided we would post the blog in full – it would appear in the right-hand column where we normally run our major articles. Our blog has been a huge success. Readers really like the short, informal items. But blog readers seem to be a specialized group. I sometimes worry that blog items don’t get the attention they deserve. I alerted the VDARE.COM family that we needed extra-special blogging. But it didn’t really happen. Not as much as I hoped, anyway. The items were strong. But the pace was too slow for my liking. The reason is simple: I don’t usually pay for blogs items. I just tell writers it’s a professional obligation. But I was asking our writers to take time away from their families, their personal lives (including, of course, their removal plans). Of course, they do this all the time. But the July 4th weekend was special. There have been many great blogs out there. As a professional journalist, I have been fascinated to see the amount of journalistic talent in America, outside of the professionals’ closed circle. But these non-professional do tend to flame out. You need money to ensure quality and quantity. I would love to be able to pay for blog items. But I can’t. We just don’t have the money—unless you help. You don’t have to take my word for it. When we began our latest appeal one of our regular writers, Rob Sanchez, editor of the “Job Destruction Newsletter”, sent me this unsolicited testimonial: Peter: This is my meager donation to the cause. Use it anywhere you want on the website: There is no better website to read quality material about immigration and non-mainstream political issues than VDARE.COM. It has a major problem however: one of the reasons VDARE.COM attracts so much good quality writing is that it is one of the few websites that pays for its material—and that money has to come from somewhere. That somewhere is you! I like writing for VDARE.COM because if they publish my article I get a small amount of money that proves to me that my labors are appreciated. I also get the satisfaction of knowing that what I wrote will be read by a huge audience. Writing for VDARE.COM requires copious amounts of time for researching and editing because the editors are such sticklers for facts and accuracy. It’s truly a labor of love for those of us who contribute to the VDARE.COM website. Nobody is going to get rich writing for VDARE.COM. But for some of us cash-strapped activists every little bit helps. And knowing there will be a token check in the mail gives us the incentive to strive to write our best-quality material. Once we write the article the work isn’t done. VDARE.COM employs professional internet editors like James Fulford who toil every day correcting our typos and adding lots of cool links so that what we wrote has sheen. All of this costs money—which is paid for by your donations. I have personally met with VDARE.COM's creator, Peter Brimelow, and he is a class act. You couldn’t ask for somebody more capable of running the VDARE.COM business. But he can’t do it without your support. If you think VDARE.COM is an important asset, and I sure hope you do, then please donate generously—so that VDARE.COM can continue to bring you fresh material every day. NOTE: I was not solicited to write this letter on the behalf of VDARE.COM. I did so because I truly believe that your donations are essential to keep the site going, and I’m hoping that if I help to bring in some donations James Fulford will finally be nice enough to show me how he does one of those card tricks of his. LOL! (James Fulford is an amateur magician. In the patriotic immigration reform business, it helps if you believe in magic). Please help us now. For every $100 donation, we will send a free copy of the Spring 2008 special VDARE.COM issue of The Social Contract magazine. (Remember to include your address if you donate by PayPal!). For $125, we’ll send two. For $150 or above, three. Please give generously. You have my profound gratitude.
Peter Brimelow
