The Pilgrims were invading the territory of the Americans, just as today`s immigrants are invading America.
This won`t do.
The land mass we refer to today as "North America" was known as "Turtle Island" to some of the tribes that were living on it before the Europeans` arrivals.
This land certainly wasn`t what anyone means by "America" until those Europeans came and transplanted their civilization into what was, for them, a wilderness.
So we might say that the Pilgrims invaded the territory of the Turtle Islanders, but surely not "the territory of the Americans."
