Wade Henderson of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, which represents 200 civil rights and human rights organizations, and Marc Morial of the National Urban League said in a Tuesday letter to Scalise that they have questions about his past appearance before the European-American Unity and Rights Organization, or EURO, a group formed by former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke.

[Civil Rights Groups Ask for Meeting With Steve Scalise, by Jennifer Bendery, Huffington Post, January 7, 2015. Emphasis added.]

David Duke was also elected to the Louisiana state legislature, but apparently he was just some random Klansman that Louisiana politicians wanted to hang out with for some reason.

Incidentally, the fact that more than 200 rent-seeking "civil rights" and "human rights" organizations exist is sufficient proof in itself that America is in serious trouble.

A Louisiana blogger last week uncovered Scalise's attendance at the 2002 event and it has since blown up.
Passive voice.  It wasn't the Main Stream Media that created the "scandal."  It just blew up spontaneously.
Scalise has said he regrets giving the speech and rejects all forms of bigotry, but maintains he was a short-staffed state lawmaker at the time and didn't know he was speaking to a neo-Nazi group.
So he condemned the group and regrets giving the speech.  What's the issue?  If they don't believe his excuse that he didn't know, are they trying to force some Matlock-style recantation in front of all of them?
"We are requesting, by way of this letter, the opportunity to meet with you to discuss these concerns and related issues regarding the leadership agenda for the 114th Congress," they add.
I'm sure the 200 groups have constructive solutions for the future of the country and aren't just looking for money and set asides.

Moral of the story?  Even if you go to ground and don't push back, they won't let you go.
