One small point in response to that commentary:  The author says my restriction to natives "grates" on him.  I fully agree; it grates on me too, and I try to avoid it whenever possible.  As many of you probably know, I usually take the word "American" to mean U.S. citizens and permanent residents, where the citizens category includes naturalized citizens.  However, in my analysis in this case, I did indeed restrict to natives, for reasons which I describe in detail in my EPI paper: Are foreign students the ‘best and brightest’?
