Earlier this week, many right-wing accounts on Twitter who had been verified with a "blue checkmark" had their accounts de-verified. Twitter is now saying that verification, rather than simply proving someone actually is who he or she claims to be,  serves as a kind of ideological endorsement:

For years, Twitter verified accounts belonging to a person of "public interest" such as celebrities, journalists and politicians. It has maintained that verification is intended to authenticate someone is who they say they are and is not intended to be an endorsement of that individual. But having a verified account on Twitter has become a status symbol that confers perks such as appearing at the top of searches.

"Verification has long been perceived as an endorsement," Twitter said in a series of tweets Wednesday. "This perception became worse when we opened up verification for public submissions and verified people who we in no way endorse."

Twitter is launching its new "safety" policies on November 22. As Twitter is notoriously broad in what it considers "hate speech" (and extremely lax about stopping anti-white hate speech), VDARE.com has to prepare for the possibility our Twitter account will be deleted.

As VDARE.com's tweetmeister, I've never violated the old or new policies as far as I know. But this isn't about right or wrong. This is about a crackdown on free speech because the Leftist MSM lost control of the Narrative during the 2016 election. And they are determined not to let it happen again [Will RussiaGate result in social media regulationby Tyler Durden, ZeroHedge, November 4, 2017].

We will stay on Twitter as long as we can. But we are also on Gab, which is much friendly to free speech. We encourage you to follow us there as well.
