The media has just noticed something we've been saying for years:

updated 1:05 p.m. ET, Thu., Sep. 16, 2010 More Americans living in poverty msnbc.com staff and news service reports The number of people living in poverty in America rose by nearly 4 million to 43.6 million in 2009 – the largest figure in the 51 years for which poverty estimates are available – the Census Bureau said Thursday.

A better headline might be "More people who aren't  American living in America." You get immigrants coming  to the US directly from the Third World, of course they add to the poverty rate. See It's Official: U.S. Importing Poverty, By Sam Francis, from 2002.
