The New York Times has not gotten around to assigning any of its huge newsroom to the murder of Kathryn Steinle by Francisco Sanchez, linking instead only to four AP and one Reuters wire service write-ups, such as this most recent attempt to quiet the political fallout via headline-crafting:

Slain Woman’s Parents Focused on Healing, Not Sanctuary Law

July 04, 2015 – By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS – U.S. – Print Headline: “Slain Woman’s Parents Focused on Healing, Not Sanctuary Law”

But the coverage raises the question of what to call Sanchez, since the NYT and AP have diktats against using terms like illegal immigrant or illegal alien. None of the four AP articles include the word “illegal,” while the Reuters article allows it in a quote from that horrible, horrible Donald Trump:
Under Fire for Comments, Trump Weighs In on California Shooting

July 03, 2015 – By REUTERS – World – Print Headline: “Under Fire for Comments, Trump Weighs In on California Shooting”

So if we can’t quite call Sanchez an Undocumented Worker, how about a Documented Felon?

No, I guess not, so back to the drawing board.

Or better yet, why mention him at all? Look, a squirrel!
