Children Go Hungry in Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara County Has the Highest Child Poverty Rate in California

by Blanca Garcia, Independent,May 31, 2018

Mexicans are the cause of the high poverty rate in Santa Barbara and they are living with multiple families in one rental unit. The problem is importing poverty and not high rents.

Families below the poverty line do not "pay their way" even if they are nice people who work hard and pay sales taxes. But wait, people living at or below the poverty line do not pay California income taxes or property taxes which are the primary revenue sources for school funding. The Federal Government funds SNAP meals.

What do readers think about this story? The local paper, The Independent, does not take comments so one can only speculate.
