Re: An Ex-Texan Liberal Reader Wants Peter Morrison To "Slither Off"

 Nelson Simonson [Email him]

I encourage Peter Morrison to slither off. Morrison has already proven his ability to slither. And I applaud Mr. Sweeney  for his remarks.

Like Mr. Sweeney , I find Peter Morrison's crude expressions of contempt for the President and all those who support him to be appalling. If Pete chooses to revoke his US citizenship, it could only make this country a better place for the rest of us. I encourage him to act swiftly.

This is not a question of liberal vs. conservative or Democrat vs. Republican. Any person of good will and decency should be repelled by his statements. Even his own Hardin County Republic Party colleagues have distanced themselves from his statements.

Perhaps because of the embarrassment he has caused them, the Hardin County Republic Party appears to have recently found a new Treasurer as illustrated on their website, despite his claim to this title (see attribution at end of his November 10, 2012 submission).

Mr. Sweeney , good for you!

Little Petey, learn to mind your manners like you were taught or go stand in the corner. Somewhere else.

Mr. Fulford, thank you for providing a forum for this exchange.

James Fulford writes: Peter Morrison’s latest has been the subject of the usual tempest in a teapot, provoked when anyone says anything politically incorrect. A reading comprehension problem made them think that he was referring to Obama voters as “maggots”—Morrison wrote "But in due time, the maggots will have eaten every morsel of flesh off of the rotting corpse of the Republic." This figure of speech doesn't refer to any actual people, any more than it refers to actual maggots.

The point-and-sputter reflex kicked in when Mr. Morrison referred to minority groups voting for Obama on an “ethnic basis”—which when you consider how savagely any member of a minority group who supports Republicans is attacked for not voting on an ethnic basis, is kind of funny.

The headline in the Huffington Post was Peter Morrison, Texas GOP Official, Calls For 'Amicable Divorce' From 'Maggots' Who Voted For Obama. It was also featured in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The Hardin County site, while making somewhat pathetic “don’t blame us” noises, actually comes out for freedom of speech, and refuses to condemn Mr. Morrison, writing

“It is understandable that individual members of the Republican Party of Hardin County may choose to share THEIR views with the public, as people have done throughout the history of American politics.

We respect the rights of these members to express their opinions.

However, NONE of these views are intended to be the opinions of the Hardin County Republican Party, its Chairman or its Executive Board.

We do not endorse any member's publication, nor have we been consulted before the publication of any such newsletter or article.

Any and all comments about any newsletter or article should be directed, personally, to the author of the newsletter or article.”

As for whether Morrison is currently treasurer of his county’s party, I couldn’t say—such jobs are always volunteer, unpaid jobs, and rotate regularly. It’s not like you can get someone “fired” from a job like that—they gain time and money when they stop.

I think the Hardin County people would be sad to lose Mr. Morrison—a successful businessman, he’s also a fairly hefty Republican donor.
