Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielson is besieged in her own home by screaming Leftists labeling her a “child snatcher”. [Protesters blast sounds of crying children outside home of DHS, by Morgan Gstalter, The Hill, June 22, 2018].Trump Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, and her family, are refused service in a Virginia restaurant [The owner of the Red Hen explains why she asked Sarah Huckabee Sanders to leave, by Avi Selk and Sarah Murray, Washington Post, June 23, 2018]. Publicist Donny Deutch declared on “Morning Joe” that Trump voters who support immigration control are “like Nazis”—on MSNBC, the network that fired Pat Buchanan because his views weren’t “appropriate for the national dialogue” [MSNBC’s Deutch Compares Trump Voters Who Support Border Policy To Nazi Guards, by Aidan McLaughlin, Mediaite, June 22, 2018]. And Sex and the City actress Cynthia Nixon, a New York gubernatorial candidate who has been endorsed by a number of leading  Leftist organizations, has called Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) a “terrorist group” [Cynthia Nixon calls ICE a ‘Terrorist Organization’ Led by ‘Egomaniacal’ Donald Trump, by Alexandra Hutzler, Newsweek, June 22, 2018].`

In other words, the “Overton Window” has been abolished. The “Overton Window” is a political theory that attempted to explain what ideas are tolerated in public discourse. Ideas move from the fringe (“unthinkable”) towards the center, when they become “policy.” But now, on immigration, the Left is convinced that everything is permissible.

Adapted from the latest Radio Derb, available exclusively on VDARE.com

If you followed the recent hysteria about our cruelty to illegal alien children on non-Main Stream Media, you'll be familiar with the depth of nonsense and dishonesty behind it all.

You'll know that the policy causing all the shrieking and fainting has been in place for years, long before Donald Trump showed up. You'll have seen the old clips from not-that-many years ago of Barack Obama, Chuck Schumer, and both of the Clintons telling us what a great evil illegal immigration is and how we need to take a strong stand against it.

You've probably also heard the numbers. You know that of the 12,000 minors detained in the six weeks of our zero-tolerance policy, only 2,000 were actually with a person claiming to be a parent. That's seventeen percent. You probably suspect, as I and Attorney General Sessions do, that if DNA testing were to be applied, that percentage would drop into low single figures.

You likely know that Mexico, through which these Central American invaders passed, has a well-equipped U.S. embassy and nine, count 'em nine, consulates scattered across that country from Yucatan in the south to Tijuana in the north. Any Central American seeking asylum in the U.S.A. could apply at any of those places, without any fear of being separated from his children.

You probably also know that Mexico is a nation addled with criminality and corruption. Much of what happens there is dictated by crime syndicates who depend on smuggling narcotics into the U.S.A. Those syndicates obviously have a keen interest in keeping our Border Patrol busy with other matters—like, for example, detaining and processing illegal border-crossers.

As of last Friday, you're probably acquainted with the backstory behind Time magazine's current cover picture of a weeping tot who, according to Time, had been ripped from her mother's arms.

When Americans are caught on camera telling Spanish-speakers to speak English or go back to Mexico, the Main Stream Media have a field day. Not least among those media: the Spanish-language Univision network. Just recall the Moral Panic after lawyer Aaron Schlossberg told two employees at a restaurant New York City to speak English to customers. And Schlossberg isn’t the only American fed up with hearing Spanish, as this compilation at YouTube shows. (Significantly, women seem particularly perturbed.)

These videos are made to order for Univision, which presents them as examples of “hate.” The Treason Lobby network recently offered seven “infallible” arguments with which a Spanish-speaker can defend himself from such “attacks.” The arguments are really comments you hear all the time, and they really aren’t infallible. But given that they bear upon the National Question, which isn’t going away any time soon, let’s take a quick look at them [7 Argumentos Infalibles Que Puedes Usar Si Alguien Te Agrede Por Hablar Español En EEUU (Seven Infallible Arguments You can Use if Someone Attacks You For Speaking Spanish In The United States), by Angelica Gallon S., Univision, May 25, 2018].

Readers get each point in English and Spanish, then, curiously, more detail in Spanish. Maybe the muchachos at Univision didn’t want the gringos to know too much.

  1. “I have a civil right to speak in any language I please in this country. There is no law that prohibits me from speaking Spanish.”

This one contains several sub-arguments provided by a civil rights lawyer.

Raheem Kassam is not your typical Muslim immigrant. The son of Gujaratis who relocated to London from Tanzania, Kassam was reared in a typically pious environment surrounded by other Muslim families. But he rejected Islam and the far-Left politics that are de rigeur for nonwhites in the West.

Kassam, instead, is a conservative, an outspoken supporter and official for UKIP, and, until earlier this month, the editor for Breitbart London. [Breitbarts Raheem Kassam Is Out, by Rosie Gray, The Atlantic, May 23, 2018] (Kassam apparently left the populist website because of his allegiance to Steve Bannon, the firebrand pushed out at Breitbart after he said some unflattering things about President Trump and his family to the slimy journalist Michael Wolff.  [Im the reason Bannon Is Out, Fire and Fury Author Michael Wolff Says, by William Cummings, USA Today, Jan. 10, 2018])

These days, Mr. Kassam is a close confidant of Nigel “Mr. Brexit” Farage, whom he introduced at the 2017 CPAC. He is also one of the more vocal supporters of the gulaged Tommy Robinson, who was recently sentenced to 13 months in jail because he bravely exposed the timidity of the British authorities when it comes to Muslim rape gangs. [UK Far-Right Figure Tommy Robinson Jailed For Contempt, Associated Press, May 29, 2018]

This unusual immigrant-turned-conservative is not only a political activist but also a social critic and author. Last year, he published No Go Zones: How Sharia Law Is Coming to a Neighborhood Near You, an in-depth look at Europe’s creeping Islamization. Now, in 2018, Kassam has analyzed the most famous speech of modern Britain’s most infamous politician, Enoch Powell, in Enoch Was Right.

"If you're ... pathetically weak, the country is going to be overrun with millions of people, and if you're strong, then you don't have any heart, that's a tough dilemma. ... I'd rather be strong."

So said President Donald Trump, on issuing his order halting the separation of children from parents caught breaking into the country. Trump's enemies are celebrating a victory. Yet the issue remains.

Under U.S. law, teenagers and tots cannot be detained for more than 20 days and must be held in the least-restrictive facilities. But if the children cannot be separated from the parents as they await trial, both will have to be released to keep families together.

We are back to "catch and release."

When that welcome news hits Central America, the migrant stream moving north will become a river that never ceases to flow.

The questions America and the West face might thus be framed:

  • Is there a liberal, progressive, Christian way to seal a 2,000-mile border, halt millions of migrants from crossing it illegally, and send intruders back whence they came? Or does the preservation of Western nations and peoples require measures from which liberal societies today reflexively recoil?
  • Does the survival of the West as a civilization require a ruthlessness the West no longer possess?
