Stop Obamnesty—Help VDARE.com Meet Its $30,000 Goal NOW!

Peter Brimelow writes:

Anyone who remembers the bitter disappointment when bad luck wrecked the Son Tay raid to retrieve Vietnam War POWs in 1970, and the Desert One effort to retrieve the Iran hostages in 1980, cannot but respond to the patriotic euphoria that has swept America after SEAL Team Six's heroic and successful mission against Osama bin Laden on May 1.

Here at VDARE.com, we suspended our Spring fundraising drive—although we were about $10,000 short of our $30,000 target.

But now President Barack Obama shamelessly plans to exploit that patriotic euphoria to push the Treason Lobby's anti-American agenda. He's making what is being billed as a major speech on "comprehensive immigration reform"—a.k.a. amnesty plus increases to already record-breaking legal immigration—in El Paso on May 10.

You know this speech will receive uncritical adulation from the entire Main Stream Media—including many self-described "conservatives".

Help VDARE.com provide Americans with the facts and arguments to reject it.

At VDARE.com, we've repeatedly refuted the myth that mass immigration is in any way economically "necessary"—or even advantageous to Americans overall.  We believe we have the best online archive on the issue. And it's always available, for free.

But we've also repeatedly said that we believe that Obama is serious about amnesty and about increasing legal immigration. He might well get credulous and selfish Chamber of Commerce Republicans to support him by mouthing a few platitudes about economics. But his real motive is political.

One small mercy: Because immigration enthusiasts are never criticized in the MSM, they are often unguardedly frank in explaining what that motive is. Thus Frank Sharry, a veteran Treason Lobbyist, was recently quoted by Halimah Abdullah of McClatchy Newspapers (The Tennessean, May 1, 2011) as gloating:

"The Latino vote is going to transform American politics, even in the South. Imagine coalitions of Latinos, African-Americans and liberal whites turning states that are now ruby red into states that are purple or even blue."

Obama and the Democrats are determined to dissolve the American people and elect a new one. They have no loyalty to the historic American nation, as it had evolved up to the time when Senator Edward Kennedy's deceptive and disastrous 1965 Immigration Act unleashed—contrary to all promises—the non-traditional current mass influx.

That's why we call them the Treason Lobby.

Yet the supposed leaders of the historic American nation are confused and, too often, cowardly. They don't understand what's going on—or, even worse, they think it's too late to do anything about it.

And, above all, they are afraid to discuss the subject in public.

VDARE.com takes real risks to inject some backbone into them. We can only do this with your support. WE MUST REACH OUR SPRING GOAL OF $30,000.

For personal reasons, I've been spending time recently in fairly close contact with the U.S military.

You have to be impressed with them.

Yet I must say that when I hear about the SEALs' raid on Abbottabad, I couldn't help thinking: "Wow! But what a pity it wasn't the Coronado Islands!"

I wrote about the Coronado Islands to celebrate last Veterans' Day. I had seen reports in the local media that these uninhabited Mexican islets just 20 miles from San Diego were being used as staging areas from which smugglers were end-running the Border Patrol and depositing illegal aliens and, probably, drug mules on California beaches—including, to add insult to injury, those abutting the great U.S. Marine Corps base at Camp Pendleton.

My questions then:

Why doesn't the Obama Administration demand that the Mexican government occupy the islands and stop this traffic?

Failing that, why didn't the Obama Administration order the Marines to occupy the islands? (They could do it easily—and they would enjoy it).

Needless to say, the Obama Administration did not answer me. And, needless to say, the Coronado Islands story did not make it to the dinosaur MSM.

Checking before I wrote this, I found that last month the story finally made the Los Angeles Times—but that nothing had changed.

Use the U.S. military to defend U.S. territory—what a novel idea!

VDARE.com has a LOT of novel ideas to defend America. But we can only do it with your help.

A few days ago, VDARE.com got this powerfully affecting email:

"To VDARE.com:

"I would like to let you know that I just made a donation of $300 to your foundation (Unique Transaction ID #—)

" I am an Infantry lieutenant currently stationed in Afghanistan (about to redeploy back, thank the Gods) and have long been an avid follower of your website.  My unit is stationed out of [—], and  I would like to know if it is possible to receive Steve Sailer's Half-Blood Prince and/or the 2010 VDARE.com Anthology at an APO address, and if so, what the cost would be versus shipping it to a location in the states.

"I ask because I want to cause the least financial burden to your organization as possible, and if it is cheaper to send to an US address (from which it can then be sent to me by a third party) then that is the route that I would prefer to take.

"[addresses supplied]

"I sincerely hope that you reach your fundraising goal of $30,000. If just 99 more people make the same level donation that I did, we should be all right.  By the way, congratulations are in order for Mr. Brimelow and the newest addition to his family.

"All the best, and very respectfully,

- 1LT [name withheld]"

Thanks! (Link added by doting father).

And, of course, we will send Lieutenant [name withheld] all the books we have.

VDARE.com supporters regularly send us moving, even heart-rending, emails and letters about the impact of America's immigration disaster on their lives. But I found this email especially poignant.

The U.S. has 47,000 troops in Iraq and nearly 100,000 in Afghanistan. By contrast, the Border Patrol has perhaps 20,000 personnel. And the much-touted Border Fence has still not been built.

At VDARE.com, we think these priorities are…misplaced. Lieutenant [name withheld] obviously thinks so too.

He has put his life on the line to defend his country. But he knows the real war is here at home.

His financial sacrifice, too, is, frankly, heroic. We are grateful, and proud.

And, quite honestly, we think Lieutenant [name withheld] is right: the war is here at home.

What sacrifice are you prepared to make?

I've said that VDARE.com must make $30,000 in its Spring Fundraiser.

And I must close VDARE.com tonight. Experience has taught us that only this measure brings home to some of our readers the gravity of our ongoing plight.

Recently, a libertarian-minded reader complained about what he called our closing the site and what he called "shameless" fund-raising. He thought we should depend on advertising, like the MSM.

I wrote back along these lines:

"Jeffrey, I understand this sentiment but I do think it's based on a mistaken analysis. VDARE is a 501(c)(3) charity. Donations to it are tax-deductible. It's an entirely legitimate economic form, like a church or a school. It's just not been seen in journalism before.

"We do sell some advertising. But remember that over a certain low point, income from it is taxable, so it's not as easy as it looks.  Also, as a long-time professional journalist, I can tell you that dependence on advertising revenue leads to some pretty 'shameless' things as well.

"And remember that what we do is Politically Incorrect.  Advertisers are all too easily scared off by Cultural Marxist thug groups like the Southern Poverty Law Center.

"So, for that matter, are Establishment foundations, even nominally conservative ones, as we have learned to our bitter cost.

"(By the way, the redesign that a nominally conservative foundation reneged on financing last year had a feature allowing donors access to the site during appeals).

"Everyone in the 501(c)(3) world looks at the amazing amounts raised for political campaigns wistfully, especially because we know most of it just goes to parasites like Karl Rove. But it's clear that some people just like giving money to politicians, just as some people like gambling. I think Ron Paul raised some $28 million in the 2008 cycle. By coincidence, the Southern Poverty Law Center raised some $28 million from contributors in F2010. The VDARE Foundation subsists on not much over one percent of that.

"I don't enjoy asking for money, but I have no qualms about it. There is really no practical alternative to a direct appeal to our readers. Of course, we assume they are not just patriots, but have a sense of humor."

Our libertarian-minded reader said he understood. I hope that you do too.

To paraphrase Lincoln's Gettysburg Address—which I do in all seriousness—we are testing whether this new form of journalism, financed by readers alone, can long survive.

If it does not, the cause of patriotic immigration reform will perish with it. We know already that the MSM will not permit it.

And our lieutenant's sacrifices will have been in vain.

Please give generously now—and help us reach our $30,000 target.

All of us at VDARE.com will be profoundly grateful.

Sincerely,

Peter Brimelow
