Thomas B. Edsall asks Should Republicans Just Focus on White Voters? in the NYT's "Opinionator" blog. [July 3, 2013] This is an unusually astute question for a New York Times writer, although he doesn't really get to the right answer. (When Peter Brimelow and Pat Buchanan presented a report called Immigration and the 2008 Republican Defeat, arguing in favor of a focus on white voters, the New York Times Editorial Board attacked it, and us at VDARE.com, savagely: The Nativists Are Restless, January 31, 2009)

Edsall mentions Pat Buchanan recent writings on the white vote, and Phyllis Schlafly, but not us. He also mentions journalists like Timothy Carney and Sean Trende, and then there’s this:

my colleague Ross Douthat, who, along with Reihan Salam, a contributing editor at National Review, in 2005 proposed a “downscale” or “Sam’s Club” Republican strategy in The Weekly Standard, an argument which they elaborated upon in a 2008 book “Grand New Party: How Republicans Can Win the Working Class and Save the American Dream.”

Oh, those guys! I remember those guys. If you read Steve Sailer’s review of Douthat and Salam,  Grand New Party Recycles Old (But Good!) VDARE.COM Ideas, you’ll know that they have a habit of being “inspired” by stuff we do here.  Some people might call it scalping, and Media Matters would no doubt call it “Mainstreaming Hate” but, yes, I can see I can see where the New York Times is suddenly getting these bright ideas.

And in a related note, Ross Douthat has a very good piece on the influence of pro-immigration GOP donors, including a guy named Sheldon Adelson. It’s worth reading! But don’t expect to learn anything VDARE.com readers don’t already know.
