On Museum Noose, Let's Go To The Tape

Apropos of the noose left inside the National Museum of African-American History in Washington, D.C., The Washington Post's Petula Dvorak  laments the "hatred" that walked into the building with school kids and other visitors.

The column is the usual lament with the usual eyewash, and course, the alleged hate crime occasions this observation: not enough whites visit the place.

The Smithsonian doesn’t keep formal track of the race of the more than 1 million visitors who have flocked to the museum since it opened. But I could see it every time I passed the building and during my four trips inside. The vast majority of visitors are black.

The very crowd with the most to learn, the Americans wrestling hardest with the legacy of race in their country, seemed to be avoiding the place.

I went to the museum Wednesday to see if my impression was correct.

And with each wave of visitors holding their timed-entry passes, except for the school groups, it was always the same. Black, black, black, black, white, white, black, black, black, black.

“I don’t want to get you in trouble, but you’re here every day,” I said to one security guard. “Would you say this is the demographic profile you see every day?”

“Yes. I’d say about 10 percent. 20 percent white,” the guard said.

Those stupid whites. Will they ever learn?

Of course, Dvorak doesn't have the slightest clue who left the noose, but believes with metaphysical certitude that "hatred" has reared its ugly head, as do many of those commenting.

Others think it's a hoax, and one helpfully provided a link to a site I've never seen: FakeHateCrimes.Org.

If that's the only thing we get out of suffering through another big cry about hatred and nooses, it will have been worth it.

Clink the link and do some reading.

I can't wait to see Dvorak explain writing such a column if this noose turns out to be another hoax. Then again, she won't have to. When narratives collapse, the left just moves to the next one.

And hoax sound mighty likely. As one commenter noted, "The fact is, this cannot be real. Staged perhaps, but not real because the place is covered in security cameras and yet no one is seen leaving it."

Is that true? What does the video show?
