Below, Jared Taylor noted how weird it was for Lynn Langton from the Bureau of Justice statistics to say that “A similar percentage of whites experienced violence from blacks as blacks experienced from whites”, ignoring the fact that there are almost six times as many blacks as whites in America, leading to a huge disparity in interracial crime.

However, in the Tampa Bay Times, Jon Greenberg had no problem awarding Michael Medved a "Half-True" rating when he said that "More whites than blacks are victims of deadly police shootings. "

Greenberg:

even the incomplete figures gathered by the government tell us that Medved could be partially correct and still ignore a huge piece of the picture. Yes, more whites than blacks die as a result of an encounter with police, but whites also represent a much bigger chunk of the total population.rulings_tom-halftrue[1]

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention keeps data on fatal injuries from 1999 to 2011 and one category is homicides by legal intervention. The term "legal intervention" covers any situation when a person dies at the hands of anyone authorized to use deadly force in the line of duty.

Over the span of more than a decade, 2,151 whites died by being shot by police compared to 1,130 blacks. In that respect, Medved is correct.

However, Brian Forst, a professor in the Department of Justice, Law and Criminology at American University, said this difference is predictable.

"More whites are killed by the police than blacks primarily because whites outnumber blacks in the general population by more than five to one," Forst said. The country is about 63 percent white and 12 percent black.[This figure includes only non-Hispanic whites.]

So, you see they can figure this out if they think it helps their argument. Medved is wrong to say that either whites or blacks are "victims" of police shootings. In almost all cases the "victim" is the cop, who has had an attempt made on his life.

Over a decade ago, I did a blog item headed Crazed Bosnian Immigrant Tries To Beat Cop's Head In, Fails (an example, by the way, of a white guy shot by police) but of course, the MSM headlined it Officer fatally shoots smoking refugee outside San Jose Starbucks.

So when Greenberg writes "When comparing death rates, blacks are about three times more likely than whites to die in a confrontation with police," he means that  blacks are about three times more likely than whites to make a murderous attack on a police officer.
