Kathy Shaidle has insisted for years that scandals like this should take the suffix "-quiddick" rather than "-gate," but we'll make an exception for Henry Louis Gates.

Megan McArdle says that the hullabaloo is "sucking up the public's very limited attention span for health care. "

Lawrence  Auster has more, including a protest by  James Crowley, (the arresting officer) about what Gates and President Obama have been saying about him, and the fact that Crowley taught a course on racial profiling at the Lowell  Police Academy.

Ann Althouse has a thing about how Crowley has been (unjustifiably) called a racist before and she writes

And The Smoking Gun has the police report, so Crowley's version of the incident is easily read. (It's detailed and well written.)

And now we know the name of the woman who called the police. I suppose her life will be ruined now, as she'll be portrayed as a racist. Lesson learned: If you think you're witnessing a crime, mind your own business. Somewhere, the new Kitty Genovese walks into the alleyway.

Everyone one has heard about the Kitty Genovese murder, and most of what you've heard about neighbors ignoring her screams is wrong. What you haven't heard about the Kitty Genovese murder is that her killer, Winston Mosely, is black. ( A TV movie based on the Kitty Genovese murder portrayed her killer as white.) You can say "Kitty Genovese was killed when her neighbors ignored her screams..." but you can't say "Kitty Genovese was killed by a black man..." it's just not allowed.
