As a supplement to our David Frum piece today, over at Youth for Western Civilization John Anderson, whose work I have applauded before has published David Frum's Scathing Critique of Newt Gingrich

"It's a pretty tough task for a Republican to be so liberal as to be 'attacked from the right' by David Frum. Yet, 'conservative' Newt Gingrich has managed to accomplish this difficult task. David Frum is so liberal he has basically left the GOP with the demise of George Bush's big-government neoconservative 'compassionate conservatism'. Still, Newt Gingrich has gone so far into Pelosi-Obama-land that David Frum felt obliged to pen a column criticising his insane proposals on immigration."

The Frum piece is worth reading: Why Gingrich's immigration plan is unworkable CNN.com Mon November 28, 2011. Anderson correctly highlights three eminently correct quotes:

  • "Border security is the policy you endorse if you don't want to impinge on employers…"
  • "Guest working is the policy you endorse if your labor market priority is a cheaper and more pliable work force."
  • "Were illegal aliens to gain the franchise, they'd likely vote overwhelmingly Democratic. Even in the Republican year 2004, the Democrats swept voters with incomes of less than $15,000 by a 63% to 36% margin, and voters with family incomes of $15,000-$30,000 by a 57% to 42% margin."

Frum concludes by endorsing Mitt Romney’s immigration proposals. Hmmm.

Anderson concludes with:

"Being so far to the left of David Frum that he actually feels the need to write a column attacking you from the right is something unthinkable for just about any Republican. Congratulations Newt Gingrich, you've just accomplished this difficult feat with your insane proposals on immigration."

The fact remains Gingrich is now the MSM's favorite Republican.
