Peter Brimelow writes: I opened VDARE.com yesterday because I said that even I didn't have the stomach to keep our fundraising appeal going over Easter—although I knew it takes a strong stomach to keep an independent voice like VDARE.com alive.

Peter Brimelow writes: (April 25): Tonight I want to post Alexander Hart's dissection of the recent New York Times attack on the patriotic immigration reform movement's Grand Old Man, Dr. John Tanton, whom VDARE.com has defended when the organizations he founded stayed silent. (The NYT quoted a Hart VDARE.com article but didn't cite it—so you can see who they're really afraid of!). And there's much else. But, although friends helped today, donations are still slow. To enter the site, scroll to the bottom of the page—but pause at the donation options. IF WE ARE TO KEEP THE SITE OPEN, WE NEED YOUR HELP NOW.

Exactly as our advisors predicted, donations promptly collapsed.

We must raise $30,000 this spring. Right now, we're not even a quarter of the way there. I'm leaving the site open tonight—scroll to the bottom of the site, below THE DONATION OPTIONS—because I can't stand not posting a particularly interesting Steve Sailer and there's so much else. But I can only do this if donations revive. PLEASE HELP VDARE.com NOW!

Jonah Goldberg Is Raising Money For NRO, Which Already Has Too Much—We Have A Better Use For It!!

Jonah Goldberg's latest fundraising pitch on National Review Online starts
pic"Dear Reader (and I suppose you twisted deviants who just like to rub up against the screen),

This is not a G-File. It's a real letter, to you. I've written these things so many times now, I think the words "See 'Jonah Goldberg's Annual National Review Online Fundraising Pitch'" will appear in the Webster's entry on "Nietzsche's Eternal Return of the Same." So forgive me if I repeat myself a bit in this Spring Fundraising Drive request."[Stewards of the Cause, April 19, 2011]

And I hope our readers, who contain fewer twisted deviants than Jonah's, will forgive me if I don't actually link to Mr. Goldberg's appeal. We never put links in our appeal front page—except to allow you to continue to buy anything from Amazon.com after entering through VDARE.com, earning us a commission at no cost to you—but this one I'd leave out anyhow.

Mr. Goldberg and National Review's editorial board are not good "Stewards Of The Cause." They are bad stewards. Mr. Goldberg himself has been particularly weak on immigration, being something of a "Statue Of Liberty" fetishist, and National Review and National Review Online has been so weak on the National Question that we're surprised they don't change the name.

In fact, Professor Paul Gottfried started VDARE.com calling it the "Goldberg Review" back when their online presence—smaller and less expensive—was actually run by a younger Jonah Goldberg.

But here's what you need to know about the current National Review—they have huge amounts of money.

They have lost in excess of twenty-five million dollars since their founding, and this is in spite of charging for subscriptions, selling advertising and merchandise, and having multiple fundraising cruises every year.

Don't give them money! They'll only spend it on starting another war or something.

We have a small and dedicated staff which needs to eat on a regular basis. National Review has a large, and not nearly as dedicated staff, which could stand to lose a few pounds.

Send us the money! Unlike National Review, we are tax-deductible and we are much better stewards of the cause, which in this case is something called America.

When a derelict, who once saw better days, stops you on the street and asks you for money, you don't give it to him, because you know he'll only take it to the bar and spend it. You know he won't be a good steward of that money, but a "Bar Steward." Well, that's what the editorial board of NR and NRO are—"Bar Stewards." (I'm sorry, but I know Jonah, in spite being older if not wiser, would have made that joke.)

So give the money to us—don't let the "Bar Stewards" grind conservatism down!
