A Texas Lawyer Wonders How We Know Jose Luis Medellin Is Really Mexican

From: Jerri Ward (e-mail her)

Re: Athena Kerry’s Blog: Mexichurian Candidate v. Texas (and America)

I heard Mr. Ertman, the father of one of Medellin’s victims, on the Laura Ingraham Show this morning. He said that Jose Medellin came to this country, illegally, when he was 3-months old.

What does that say about "assimilation" when a man who grew up in the U.S. argues that not having the input of the Mexican Consulate was a fatal legal error?

Also, I was born and raised in Texas. I don't remember knowing any Medellins. That doesn’t sound like a Mexican name to me.

How do we know that Medellin is really from Mexico?

Ward, who hosts a monthly radio show called “I Object!  Justice Examined” on RightTalk Radio, earned her Juris Doctor, 1980, from the Texas Tech University School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts in Economics, 1977, from Texas A & M University.
