On a recent trip through the
San Francisco Bay Area, I saw thousands of
day laborers
(most probably illegal aliens) standing on the street
corners waiting for work.
If there is such a shortage of
fruit pickers,
why aren't these people out there working in the
fields?
Berger, who retired to
central Oregon two years ago, is a legal immigrant from
Germany who came to San Francisco as a child.
