A Reader Knows Why We’re Losing the War on Drugs

Re: Joe Guzzardi’s Column: “The War on Drugs: $$$ Down the Rat Hole”

Joe Guzzardi’s article said the Feds spent 19 billion and the states spent 30 billion in 2003 and accomplished nothing in the War On Drugs.

That amount is about seven times the estimated cost of a double fence and patrol road the full length of our border with Mexico. That fence would have a huge impact on the drug trade and the illegal alien invasion.

Nobody in government is serious about stopping drug smuggling because the big boys spend as much money buying protection as lobbyists spend in Washington.  That may be one reason for the decided lack of enthusiasm for actual border control.
