The stretch goal of the Republican Party is to regain the Senate majority in the November 2014 elections. The current split is 55/45 D-I/R, with a total of 33 seats up for election this year. To achieve a bare majority of 51 the Republicans will have to gain a net of 6 seats.

To accomplish this will require everything in the electoral process to work in the Republican’s favor. That means their conservative base must be energized throughout the nation. Any actions by the Party that would demoralize or frustrate that base would be incredibly stupid, and outright suicidal. Unfortunately, the proposed endorsement, voting, passage, and implementation of Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR) legislation will do just that.

Besides being stupid and corrupt the Republican elites must be memory impaired. For in 2006 and 2007 just the endorsement and voting for CIR legislation that did not pass was a significant factor in reducing the turnout of the conservative base resulting in the Democrat blowouts of the 2006 and 2008 elections. If in 2014 CIR actually passes and is implemented by the lawless Obama regime then this effect will be even more catastrophic for the Republicans. Immigration is a “blood and soil” issue for the conservative base and there is no way the Republican elites can sweet talk them into compliantly voting for the “R” candidate on Election Day if this scenario occurs. The conservative base will be enraged, and the Republican prospects for the Senate in 2014 will be destroyed.

It is also a possibility the Republicans may forfeit their majority in the House as the traitorous Republican congressmen voting for CIR will lose the general election being targeted by patriotic voters. Also, the general post-CIR malaise of the conservative base may be a factor in the loss of other House Republican seats. And an undetermined number of the newly “legalized” but non-citizen immigrants will find their way to the polling places and vote Democratic.

It will be all over for the GOP but the funeral.
