A propos of P. J. O'Rourke and his defense of illegal aliens I had two thoughts - not so connected thoughts but here goes:

1) O'Rourke has always been the kind of conservative who sucks up to liberals, but conservatives are so grateful to have someone “cool” as one of their own that they tolerate this. I remember back in the 90s he called the “religious right” “crazy and stupid” to liberal talk show host Gil Gross. He also jokes over having been a hippie radical back when that was the way to get dates and says you would have been crazy not to be one at that time. Well, P. J., some of us have integrity.

2) I spent some time in DC, where O’Rourke seems to hang out, and observed the following: the Latino migrants were friendly and I never felt nervous around them—just the opposite with the local blacks. I made this comment in another conservative blog but they yanked it. So much for honest observation.
