Peter
Brimelow writes: I've been
fired, or at least demoted, again.
The VDARE Foundation's Executive Directrix, Crystal, who belongs
to Kira, above, thinks my fundraising appeals are not
appealing enough. AND ULRICH, ABOVE, IS GROWING FAST. So I'm
handing over to her.
Executive
Directrix Crystal writes:
Hi again!
Some of you may remember me from last year. I was the one
who came on here wringing my hands and yelling that we had no
money, and I couldn't make payroll.
(Remember me now?)
Well, obviously I'm back,
which is good and bad.
The good is that I wanted to
say THANK YOU! I,
obviously, made payroll last year
because of you!
We had to make some very
painful cuts. But, with your help,
we made it through another year. And that is good.
You really helped me out of a tight situation and calmed
my nerves enough to let me enjoy my Christmas.
But, more importantly, you
made it so we could bring the news the MSM is too afraid to
report.
Now, I have a New Year's Eve
party to go to at my friend Sarah's house this Friday.
It should be a good time!
Her husband brews his own beer, so that's always tasty,
and it's a very diverse crowd – there will be artists, state
troopers, teachers, stay-at-home moms, engineers, computer guys
and even a couple financial types there.
(Oh, and their really adorable white boxer will be
there!) So I will be
with a crowd with people who wear anything from bathrobes to
suits to work. (I personally find that highly amusing).
What I actually start to think
about before a party like this is:
What have I read of interest on
VDARE.COM lately that I can use for small talk?
I know, some people talk
weather. But I prefer immigration—what can I say, we work long
hours here at the VDARE Foundation!
I'm thinking a big topic of
conversation is likely to be the DREAM Act Amnesty.
Fortunately for me, I have VDARE.com to read up on it.
Thanks to our archives I can do a search and see that
Bryanna Bevans first wrote about it back in 2005!
Or there's Birthright
Citizenship. It seems likely to be an issue in the new Congress.
Howard Sutherland wrote about that way back in 2001. (!!!)
Or unemployment. An
Establishment foundation recently guessed at immigration's
impact—VDARE.com's Ed Rubenstein has been documenting it since
2004.
Of course, I also have Peter
in the office to answer any questions—or at least he would
answer them if he weren't always so busy editing.
Which brings me to the bad.
We weren't able to replace the
Establishment foundation grant that we lost last Spring.
(See
here for details).
Excuse me while I go off on a
small tangent here…
It doesn't seem
FAIR to me that some of the larger patriotic immigration
reform groups out there don't have to struggle the way we do.
I just don't understand why they are able to bring in so
much money. For
instance, there is a group out there that gets over $6 MILLION a
year in grants, and $1.5 MILLION dollars in individual
contributions. Actually, maybe I do understand why—it's spending
$600,000 a year on fundraising.
That is MORE than our entire yearly budget!
Okay, I feel a little better
getting that off my chest.
Back to the bad.
We depend, more than ever, on
our readers.
You'll remember last year I
told you that only about 1 per cent of our readers had donated
anything at all to us.
Well, that hasn't changed much.
We're up to about 1.25 percent of you having donated
anything at all. Yes, that is an increase of 25%—but there are
SO many of you that have not given anything.
Ever!
Our website is looked at more
than 16,000 times a day.
SIXTEEN THOUSAND!
If we were give ten cents for every time our site was
looked at, we would make our budget without a problem.
Think about that.
If every time you accessed
VDARE.com, you just stuck a dime in a piggy bank, and then sent
that amount to us at the end of the month – we wouldn't have to
come on here asking for money.
And let me be clear about
this: we don't like taking the site down. We don't like having
to ask for money. If
it was up to us, we would be given grants to cover all of our
VERY LOW operating costs, and you would never hear a word from
us about money.
Unfortunately, all of that
money is now going elsewhere.
So we are stuck asking you to help us.
I am still sending out a ton
of grant proposals. Peter still had to carry all of VDARE.com's
expenses personally for eight months this year.
And I still haven't figured
out how to get the office dogs, Kira (who commutes here with me)
and Ulrich von Brimelow (growing FAST) to help out!
(Okay, they do a great job of boosting my morale!)
So, this is me
once again asking you: please help us out!
I'll be
really grateful!
And so will Kira and Ulrich!
