You know the problem of remittance dependence is getting bad when a top Mexican banker criticizes it. Mexico has become a bloated welfare queen, munching tacos and bon bons on the backs of its exported workforce who dutifully send increasing piles of dollars to the homeland.

UPDATED Myth Of The 300 Million
The Census Bureau has finally announced that the U.S. population has passed 300 milion (it thinks). We anticipated this by posting Kevin Carter's The Myth Of The Three Hundred Million last week, reporting Professor Virginia Abernethy's argument that there has been a serious undercount. She was still fine-tuning her underlying paper, but she's now finished, and we've posted it here.
